Free Resource: Sample formal lesson observation summary sheet

The observation summary sheet can be given on its own or with a running lesson commentary that refers to specific points in the lesson.  If you do provide the teacher with a copy of your running commentary then its a good idea to use the numbering system from the top sheet on the commentary.  For example, if reducing teacher talk is the number one priority then mark the commentary with a ‘1’ at points in the lesson where it has been an issue.

I prioritise the points so number 1 is either the best point or needs most work on it.  Three points in both ‘went well‘ and ‘ suggested areas to work on‘ seems to work well, although there are times with some teachers where I may only have one to two areas to work on.

Some trainers don’t use an overall comment box if it is only repeating what is said in the other boxes.
